HELP! My Hair Is Out Of Control!!

For the last week, my hair has been hating me! It has so much static that I have to constantly wear it up in a bun. So…I did some research and I hope I can help my fellow static hair victims as well!

Why your hair is so static-ky?

During this time of year (winter) when it is freezing cold out, the air is usually dry. Cold temperatures plus dry air is what makes your hair static-ky. Sometimes it can be caused by your brush -- Soft, dense plastic bristles can cause static. Static electricity in clothes and bed linens can also cause static in your hair.

Here are some solutions:

1) Static Spray -- After washing your hair, spray your hair brush with static guard and brush through wet hair. Let it air dry. Static guard spray or lotion can be purchase at any drug stores. I recommend herbal essence anti frizz hair lotion.

2) Dryer Sheets -- Yes, they work on your clothes and amazing works on your hair as well. Be careful not to use too much as it will make your flocks greasy. Try rubbing it on your hands and than rub your hands through your hair. I recommend Bounce Dryer Sheets.

3) Your Brush -- Soft, dense plastic bristles can cause static. Try changing it to a vent brush, it has wide apart stiff bristles and is good for blow drying. There are brushes out there that are made to help reduce the static electricity in hair. Here are some recommendations: http://www.goody.com/Products/Styling%20Tools/Brushes/Paddle/Paddle.aspx

4) Hand Lotion -- Rub a little bit of hand lotion in your hand before smoothing it through your hair. Try to use only a little as it can make your hair greasy looking.

5) Home Remedy -- A cool home remedy which actually works for me is mixing one egg (white only) with your favorite shampoo and wash your hair as usual. Try not to overdo this remedy though. Only repeat this if necessary (about once a week).

6) Shampoo – Try an anti-static shampoo…

7) Leave-in Conditioner – Apply a little leave-in conditioner to moisturize the hair.

8) Humidifier – It doesn't have to be a huge floor unit, but something small to sit on a table and to keep your room to gently moist the air.
